A wave of shock has enveloped the Tsaragi Emirate following the tragic killing of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The cleric was allegedly lynched by irate youths over accusations of witchcraft.
JUST EVENT ONLINE TV reports, according to sources who spoke to NupekoTV, the violence erupted after a sick child allegedly named the Imam as the cause of his ailment, claiming the cleric intended to harm him. The accusation reportedly led to a mob attack that ended the Imam’s life.
Police have since intervened, arresting two suspects believed to be directly involved in the heinous act. The suspects are currently detained at the Tsaragi Police Division, where the deceased’s body was also taken.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, highlighting the persistent dangers of mob justice and the urgent need for communities to uphold the rule of law instead of resorting to violence driven by superstition.
