The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan Village, Tsaragi, in Edu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi (anipr) and obtainedbyJUSTEVENTONLINETV, the incident occurred on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., following the death of one Ibrahim Gana, aged 25, a resident of Sokunkpan Village who had been receiving treatment at a hospital before he passed away.
In the aftermath of his death, the deceased’s brothers, identified as Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam of the village, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother’s demise through alleged spiritual means. The suspects reportedly mobilized a mob that attacked the cleric with dangerous weapons, resulting in his death.
Police operatives promptly intervened and launched an investigation into the incident, leading to the arrest of four suspects. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved in the killing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, strongly condemned the act, warning residents against jungle justice and taking the law into their own hands.
> “Such actions are criminal and punishable under the law,” CP Ojo said, urging members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the command’s dedicated communication channels.
The Commissioner reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and order across Kwara State, noting that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
