To ensure hitch-free travels and guard against road crashes as the end-of-year festivities begin, the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), has announced the deployment of personnel at its national and field commands for the commencement of its end-of-year special patrol operations code-named ‘Operation Zero’.
Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, who authorized the special patrol and charged all commanding officers to mobilize both material and human resources for its execution, said the exercise will reduce gridlock, and road obstructions and significantly cut down on road crashes nationwide.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, in Abuja yesterday, Biu said ‘Operation Zero’ which commenced on 15 December 2022 to 15 January 2023, targets adequate mobilisation of personnel and logistics that will engender hitch-free trips for all travellers.
He tasked his officers to show diligence and dedication as they carry out the operation within their general operational areas to “minimise and tackle assiduously, all variables responsible for traffic gridlock, obstructions and road crashes nationwide.”
He also commended the personnel for the observable positive road use behaviours of commuters, particularly the ones that comply with established traffic regulations.
He warned violators of traffic laws to desist henceforth or face the wrath of the law.
According to him, “the operatives have been mandated to educate road users and also ensure that drivers whose actions and inactions endanger other road users are apprehended, their vehicles impounded and appropriate sanctions meted on them.”
