As the scramble for political offices heightens in the nation a prominent group Kwara North Youth Initiative Pioneer, has made a case for the Kwara North region to be given the ministerial slot
They made this known on Saturday in Ilorin by the President of the group, Comrade Na’Allah Babamasi during a press conference with journalists
He said equity, fairness, and justice in ministerial appointments in the state. It is an undeniable fact that Kwara North has been left behind in terms of social and infrastructure development compared to the other two senatorial districts in our state.
Over the years, the number of unemployed youths in Kwara North has reached alarming levels, while our region continues to suffer from a lack of adequate infrastructure. We must acknowledge the commendable efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the past four years to bridge the gap in social and infrastructural development between Kwara North and the other senatorial districts. We are sincerely grateful to His Excellency for his commitment to our region.
However, Comr. Badamasi, said we have gathered here today to make a fundamental appeal to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other stakeholders: We request that the ministerial appointment for Kwara State be given to Kwara North, even if it is only one slot. This call is essential when we consider the fact that both Kwara South and Kwara Central senatorial districts have produced ministers from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the entirety of President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.
We must highlight that Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the immediate past Minister of Information and Culture, hails from Kwara South, while Senator Ruqayyat Gbemisola Saraki, the Minister of State for Solid Minerals, represents Kwara Central. Therefore, it is only fair and just that Kwara North be given the next priority for a ministerial appointment under the present administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This consideration for Kwara North becomes even more imperative when we take into account the significant voter turnout from our region in the last general elections.
Despite having the lowest population among the three senatorial districts, Kwara North demonstrated immense loyalty and love for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the ruling APC. Kwara North secured the second-highest number of votes among the three districts, surpassing Kwara South. We firmly believe that nobody can love and care for our region more than ourselves. Therefore, granting Kwara North the ministerial appointment would undoubtedly help bridge the gap in high unemployment rates, social amenities, and infrastructure deficits that our region currently faces.
We also implore the authorities to consider providing commensurate appointments at both state and federal levels to support our quest for better development in Kwara North. It is our turn in Kwara North, and we sincerely appeal to our beloved Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, to empathize with our cause and support our request.
