World Sports Journalist Day: SWAN committed to promoting sporting activities in Kwara State

The Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail says the association is committed to promoting sporting activities in the state.

The World Sport Journalists day is celebrated every 2nd of July to mark the services of sports journalists for the promotion of sports.

Ayodeji said the role of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria cannot be overemphasised in the promotion of sporting activities/events.

He said SWAN will continue to partner with sports stakeholders who know the usefulness of sports journalists.

The Chairman said, “I want to re-emphasise that the primary responsibility of sports journalists is to promote and project sporting activities in the world and the current SWAN in Kwara State is committed to promoting activities in the state.

“Kwara SWAN is enjoying a smooth relationship with the State Government, Sports Commission and the Football Association because they know the importance of the association. During the last National Sports Festival and National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, there was synergy between the Kwara SWAN, Sports Commission and the State Government.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq supported Kwara SWAN financially during the 2023 National Youth Games, during this year’s Ramadan period as well as other sporting events.

“You will also notice the huge presence of sports journalists in the matches of Kwara United and Kwara Football Association, this is because they know the importance of SWAN in the state. Kwara Football Association ensured some of our members were given Match Commissioners to NNL and NLO 1 matches.

“I want to enjoin other Sporting Associations, private club owners as well as sports stakeholders in the state to partner with Kwara SWAN for us to achieve our desired goals”

This day has been earmarked as the official day of celebration because of its significance as the date when the International Sports Press Association was established at the 1924 Paris Olympics.
