Ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress, APC State Congress, the Voice of Kwara Progressives, VKP has stressed the need for the party leadership to consider the choice of a youthful candidate for the position of State Secretary in line with the belief and commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq towards youths involvement in governance.
An APC Chieftain and Secretary of the VKP, Lanre Sulyman in a statement issued to newsmen in Ilorin the State Capital appeal to the party hierarchy to consider election of a young and bright mind into the office of the State Secretary as the State Congress holds tomorrow.
Lanre Sulyman maintained that doing so would among other things, bring fresh blood into the party and complement the efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq geared towards youths involvement in governance, stressing that, in the last 2½ years or thereabout, the Governor has engaged and entrusted kwara youths with positions of authority and responsibilities in an unprecedented manner.
It is important at this state and level of our development and democracy to begin to challenge youths with more and bigger responsibilities. It is high time Kwara youths are involved at a higher level of our politics, governance and administration. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has and he is till doing it and the result is there for all to see, majority of his cabinet members are youths, a development we have not seen before in the state especially in recent time past.
Governor AbdulRazaq has positively engaged the youths to take the centre stage and they have in turned proven to be resourceful and plausible to the government that places the responsibility on them. So it is imperative for youths to be engaged in our party politics because they are the engine to drive political activities that would ensure sustainable socioeconomic development in our state.
If anything, we must all que behind our working Governor and share his vision and mission tailored towards entrusting youth with (bigger) responsibilities. Against the foregoing, on behalf of the youths and progressive members of our party and Kwarans in general, I call on all our party hierarchy to please cede the position of secretary of our party to youths as we go into the State Congress tomorrow.
The VKP maintains that, aside from the Youth Leader, it is important for the youthful generation to have adequate representative at party decision making in the spirit of carrying everyone along, the statement concludes.
