The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has recorded a remarkable feat in the latest accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), with 36 out of 37 academic programmes securing full accreditation and the remaining one receiving interim accreditation.
The accreditation exercise, conducted in October and November 2024, had its results officially released in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN. The letter, signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, by the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, affirmed that no course from the University was denied accreditation.

According to the NUC, faculties with programmes that secured full accreditation include Management Sciences (Finance), Basic Medical Sciences (Anatomy), Communication and Information Sciences (Computer Science), and all 17 programmes presented from the Faculty of Education. In the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, both Chemical and Mechanical Engineering were fully accredited.
Similarly, all programmes from the Faculties of Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences earned full accreditation, as did three programmes from the Faculty of Physical Sciences and four from the Faculty of Social Sciences.
From the Faculty of Arts, Igbo was fully accredited, while Hausa received interim accreditation—the only programme to do so in the entire exercise.
Reacting to the news, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, described the development as a source of pride and fulfillment for the entire University community. In a statement released by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said, “We are happy to be so recognised. We are indeed elated.”
He credited the achievement to the University Administration’s sustained investment in both human and material resources and expressed gratitude to the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and Faculty members for their dedication and contributions.
Prof. Egbewole reaffirmed the University’s commitment to academic excellence, saying, “It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions. We want to assure everybody that the Administration will continue to appreciate them.”
