Three persons are feared dead after gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded Oshie community in Engeni, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the gunmen, numbering over five, stormed the area at about 6am on Wednesday and shot sporadically.

A community source said the exact mission of the assailants could not be ascertained, as there has been relative peace in the community.

“We were still sleeping when we started hearing gunshots. So, people started running, while many of us remained indoors because we don’t know the mission of the boys (miscreants).

“As a result of the shooting, there is panic in the community and we are already mourning those killed. Let the police and other security agencies come to our aid because we don’t know if they will come again,” the source who pleaded anonymity stated.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, a youth leader in the area simply identified as Okeya told journalists in Port Harcourt that the gunmen arrived the community early Wednesday morning, shot sporadically, leaving the three men dead.

Okeya called on the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, to rise up to occasion by ensuring that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.

When contacted, the acting spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-koko, said she was yet to get the report of the incident, promising to contact the Divisional Police Officer and give our reporter a feedback.

She had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.”
