Stop encroachment on our Land – Kwarapoly Alumni Warns


The Kwara State Polytechnic Alumni Association has expressed displeasure over the level of encroachment of the institution’s land by neighbouring communities, describing it as illegal.

The President, Protem National Executives of the Alumni, Engr. Abu Salami stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Management of the institution.

Salami who said the situation is disheartening, called for urgent intervention of the state government before the situation escalate beyond control.

He said the government should stop all on going illegal construction within the Polytechnic and revoke lands that had already been taken by the villagers even after collection of compensation.

He added that the Management should proffer a permanent solution to the situation by fencing the institution’s land.

The president who lauded the leadership style of the Rector, promised that the Alumni Association will try its best to assist the Management in achieving the aims and objectives of the institution’s founding fathers.

Speaking further, Salami said the Management had transformed the institution’s hostels to one of the best due to the facilities provided.

He called on students especially new intakes to take advantage of the facilities by residing in the hostels which he said is cheaper than residing outside the Polytechnic.

Speaking earlier, the Rector, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed lauded the pragmatic leadership style of the president, adding that the Alumni should join the Management in it’s efforts to take the institution back to the days of “Kwara College of Technology” in terms of its standard.

Abdul also commended the composition of the executives which he said will give younger ones among them a sense of belonging and an opportunity to tap from the wealth of experience of the elderly ones.

He however pledged Management’s support to the Alumni at all times.

The Alumni Executives at the end of the visit also took adventures of the Polytechnic with the Rector and some members of the Management.
Some of the places visited include the Polytechnic Bakery, Bottled Water factory, Medical Diagnostic Centre, Kwarapoly Radio, Mass Communications Department Studio amongst others.
