Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged states to raise sensitisation and response to Lassa fever.
It noted while the Federal Government coordinates national response, training, consumables, infection prevention and control, protective equipment, and others, states must care for their residents.
As at April 23, 897 cases, with 154 deaths, were recorded from 26 states and 103 councils
Director-General, Dr. Adetifa Ifedayo, at a workshop in Abuja, organised with University College, London (UCL) and Johns Hopkins Programme for International Education in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (JHPEIGO), said: “We know there are still gaps, especially at sub-national level, and that is of strategic importance to us.
Representing UCL, Prof. Kate Jones, said: “We’re engaged in long term project with NCDC to leverage new technologies and genomic sequencing, new vaccine being developed.
