The Senior Special Assistant on Transport Affairs to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Orire Ibrahim Olanrewaju, paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Vehiclea Inspection Office (VIO) to discuss ways to improve collaboration and address transportation challenges in the state.
During the visit, Mallam Orire highlighted the government’s plans to establish a task force comprised of relevant stakeholders in the transportation sector.
This task force will focus on eradicating illegal motor parks, which the SSA identified as a source of a significant portion of criminal activities in the state.
Just Event Online TV reports, Mallam Orire revealed plans for the current administration, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to organize a Driver’s Training Workshop. He said this workshop aims to educate road users on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and the dangers of reckless driving.
The SSA commended the VIO for its dedication to ensuring road safety and generating revenue for the state.
In response , Engr. Akin Dominic, the CEO of VIO, expressed his gratitude for Mallam Orire’s reappointment and congratulated him on his visit.
He stressed, “On behalf of the entire VIO, the oldest stakeholder in the transport sector, we congratulate you. You deserve some commendations for making VIO your first pooint of call.”
Engr. Dominic emphasized the VIO’s commitment to remaining the primary collector of road taxes, highlighting that 90% of such taxes are generated by the agency.
Shortly after the meeting, Engr. Dominic led Mallam Orire and his team on an inspection tour. The tour included a visit to a facility where officers displayed fake motorcycle number plates seized during operations, as well as the KWAVIS service center. At the service center, the technical head explained the functions of various equipment used by the VIO.
