The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to curbing the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicating substances within the state.
The state Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, made this declaration on Friday during the commissioning ceremony of the newly reconstructed Shagari Jumu’at Mosque.
He cited recent operations by the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, including the seizure and destruction of large quantities of alcohol, as clear evidence of the administration’s resolve to uphold public morality.
“I commend the Hisbah Board for its relentless efforts in sanitising our society and eradicating social vices,” Aliyu said.
He emphasised that while the Hisbah Corps will sustain its operations, it must do so within the confines of the law and with full respect for human rights.
The Governor also called for greater public cooperation with the Hisbah Board to enable it to carry out its mandate effectively and professionally.
On religious infrastructure, Aliyu revealed that 63 Jumu’at Mosques are currently undergoing reconstruction across the state.
