Senate to transmit N’West Development Commission bill for President’s assent

Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, has expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu will assent to the North West Development Commission Bill to address the challenges faced by the North West geopolitical zone.

Barau stated that all is set for the transmission of the bill to the President for assent, as both chambers of the National Assembly have passed the bill.

In a statement by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Barau said that the passage of the bill by the parliament aligned with President Tinubu’s commitment to transform the country and return it to the path of progress and prosperity.

He said, “The establishment of the North West Development Commission is aimed at addressing the challenges facing the seven states in the geopolitical zone (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara) and the country as a whole.”

Describing the North-West as the country’s food basket, Barau highlighted that “the commission will work towards the restoration of infrastructure destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in the region.”

He equally emphasised the importance of the commission in addressing challenges in the region and the entire country.
