Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has expressed concern over the rising cost of airfares on the Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes, describing them as increasingly unaffordable for Nigerians in the current economic climate.
In a post shared on his official social media pages and monitored by Just Event Online TV on Sunday evening, Saraki disclosed that he spoke directly with Captain Edward Boyo, the Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways, to address the issue.
“I just got off the phone with Captain Boyo, the CEO of Overland Airways, to discuss how the current fares on the Lagos–Ilorin and Abuja–Ilorin routes are becoming unaffordable for our people in this current economy,” Saraki stated.
The former Kwara State Governor said he reminded the airline boss of their long-standing relationship and the company’s historical ties with Kwara State, noting that they had worked together to pioneer and develop the Ilorin routes during his tenure as governor.
Saraki further revealed that Captain Boyo assured him that the airline would review the pricing structure in the coming week.
“I am glad that he listened to my appeal and has promised to look into the pricing in the coming week. I am hopeful for a positive response,” he added.
The intervention has been widely received as a commendable effort to ease travel challenges for residents of Kwara State and other travelers who rely on the Ilorin routes.
