House of Representatives aspirant under the ruling All Progressive Congress and Former Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Saadatu Modibo Kawu on Thursday organized Youth Engagement for Ilorin East/South Constituency
The youth summit which was held at the APC secretariat, Sango Ilorin was tagged “The role of youths in stimulating growth and development in democracy”
Guest lecturer of the event, Muhammed Lawal Olohungbe, maintained that an individual cannot be beneficial to democracy if his impact is not felt in the community, and added that political aspirants must have certain qualities. He urged the people not to support their ambition if they lack such traits
“An aspirant must have empathy, should be able to inspire others. An aspirant must be self-developed, must have habits of developing others, also he/she must be accessible to people”
Responding to questions, the former commissioner posited that whether in position or not, she will continue to be relevant in her community. She reiterated that her focus will be on the girl child and the boy child will not be left uncared for
“There will be a balanced between both gender”
“Our focus is on the girl child because they are lagging and will imbibe in them that nothing should be a hindrance for them to achieve success”
Speaking to JUST EVENT ONLINE TV, Hajia Modibo Kawu maintained that the youth engagement was aimed to open the mind of the youths to community development activities
She said the election should not be a do or die affair for whoever is seeking positions, added that family and friends come first before politics
“We are first and foremost family and friends, therefore we should not allow politics to tear us apart.”
She added that with unity and togetherness, a lot of positivity will be done in the community
She, however, urged the youths to be focused on their goals, saying bigger things are coming. Added that they should be self-developing
She appreciated her supporters from the nooks and crannies of the constituency, as she wished other aspirants the best of luck
