A call has gone to Kaduna State Government to probe the Zaria Central Mosque building collapse which claimed at least 10 innocent lives with several others seriously injured.
The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria made this call today while reacting to the calamity that occurred in Zaria last Friday.
In a Press Statement made available to Just Event Online TV on Sunday by the National Coordinator of the Group Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Organization wondered how this could happen since the Ultra-Modern Mosque is not an old building or a makeshift structure – pointing-out that some negligence must have caused the unfortunate incident.
According to reports, not more than 48 hours when the Mosque located in front of Emir of Zaria’s Palace was reported to have been cracked that rehabilitation work commenced. How could you be rehabilitating the damaged part without cordoning-off the danger-zone to prevent people from occupying the place for prayers; the Group queried.
The Group also said that Civil and Structural Engineers doing the rehabilitation work need to prevent the incident that occured by putting a barrier that could prevent innocent worshippers from occupying that Area.
While sympathising on behalf of the Group with His Royal Highness the Emir of Zaria Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali and the families of the bereaved, the Group admonished the Emir to allow the Kaduna State Government to probe the incident so as to forestal future occurence.
The Group prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the victims that passed-on as a result of the incident and early recovery for those injured in the unfortunate incident.
ECOWAS/NIGER MILITARY INCURSION & NAIRA UNCONTROLLABLE RATE
Meanwhile, the Muslim Media Watch Group Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his position as Chairman of ECOWAS to prevent at all costs military action against the Military Junta in Niger because of its negative consequences on the citizens of both Countries – that is Nigeria and Niger.
Analysing the current situation, the Group stated that it is clear that vast majority of Nigerians do not support military action against the Military that has occupied the seat of power in Niger for obvious reasons that have been explained by all shades of reasonable opinions.
It therefore called on the ECOWAS to continue by using diplomatic dialogue after which if the matter remained unresolved, it should be handed-over to African Union (A U) rather than ECOWAS directly forcing its resolutions on Niger.
NAIRA DEVALUATION:
On the issue of Naira rate to Dollars, the Group called on President Bola Tinubu to arrest the uncontrollable Naira depreciation adding that it is affecting seriously all aspects of the Nation’s Economy.
With the abolition of Naira Exchange multiplicity, Naira supposed to be stronger but unfortunately continued to fall incredibly.
As this is part of President Bola Tinubu’s RENEWED HOPE AGENDA, the Group said the depreciation of Naira should be arrested and stabilised without further delay.
