POS operators increase charges by 50% in Kwara

Less than seven days before the deadline for the redesigned naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, some Point-of-Sale, POS operators in Kwara have increase charges for transactions in the old banknotes.

Just Event Online correspondent, Hanifat Ismail observed on Wednesday that POS increase deposit charges by about 50% in some areas in Ilorin, the state capital

The operators now charge 150/200 for 5,000, and 10,000 as against 50/100 before

When speaking with some operators, they attributed the increase to a shortage of old naira notes in circulation. Added that the new naira notes is not available in the banks despite the claim by CBN

As of the time of filing this report, there’s no report of rejecting old naira notes by the POS operators
