It’s undeniable that there are standards for “good” and “bad” both, however these standards are not fixed. There is no such determinant which makes figuring this out easier. These standards vary in dissimilar circumstances for different people from diverse backgrounds. If my teacher was to tell me I scored well this time in my math exam, she might just be comparing it to my last score, however a more stable benchmark would be the notions she has of my potential. Looking at this, we can say that part of deciding whether something is good or bad is comparison.
However, such comparison would be made by Citizen of a country or a state where first timer government is misusing and mismanaging the country/state treasury while her citizens are suffering during the first term of a government is almost shows that such government deserves nothing than to show such people way to leave office with their thumb. But, if eventually back to power for the second term, the suffering will be much increased.
In such state, giving peanut to her citizens as “Owo-isowo” is totally unnecessary and another way of contributing to wastages because this programme did not undergo needs assessment before giving out this money to only party loyalists. This wastage will surely contribute to economic hardship which equivalent because the money that suppose to be chanalled to somebody productive with reasonable multiplier event is giving out to selected party loyalists without economic fortune.
In this situation, 20,000 is not enough to start up a small scale business as you think because price of goods is going up day by day and as matter of fact is getting worsen in the blink of an eye. Though petty traders can start something but are the beneficiaries genuine petty traders? The answer is no and therefore this cannot reduce the level of unemployment in the state.
As published by media outlets and I quote
*”Saraki Empowered 100 Women in Kwara With N20m Grant”* which said the beneficiaries drawn across the 16 local government of the state and each trader empowered with N200k as part of Saraki usual kind gesture.
Fact must be told, if Saraki could empower with #200k to traders as at when economy is favorable why Gov Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq can’t avoid to emulate him with same amount or even double it? Since economy is worsen now.
However, it is important for us to consider another aspect. Social construction. Aren’t good and evil just human ideas? And morality is simply a way to encourage some actions and discourage others. What we consider moral or immoral is socially determined based on our societal values, with reference to others and perhaps what they have said/done.
Though these explanations are logical and make a lot of sense, it is necessary we look into those situations where these moral laws don’t abide. For instance, we all know killing is bad. But, what if it is killing one to save another. How do we choose? And this might be a very far-fetched example, but equally tough decisions do play a role in our lives. Decisions like these make it hard for us to live a life where we only do good. We cannot avoid the wicked, for the universe was to lose its balance if we could prevent ourselves from turning to the bad.
And, pahaps Kwara State Government should look for another means of saving lives with meaningful and genuine empowerment not that of ordinary #20k with much publication here and there.
Kwarans deserves better.
