The chairman Senate Committee on Health and Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe has given assurance of facilitating more developmental projects to Federal Neuropsychiatry Hospital, Budo-Egba, for the facility to fulfil its potential of providing quality healthcare services to people of Kwara State and beyond.
The lawmaker gave the assurance today, Friday, 17th March 2023 during a tour visit of some of the completed and ongoing projects at the health facility which includes: Perimeter Fence, Behavioural Wards for patients and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Centre whose groundbreaking was performed by the Nigerian Senate President, Sen. Dr Ahmad Lawan in April 2022.
Oloriegbe while addressing the staff and management of the hospital expressed that he feels fulfilled with not only the actualization of the institution which he describes as one of the legacies he is leaving behind for the benefit of the people who elected him four years ago but also the level of progress recorded thus far which he noted to be above other similar health institutions that were established at the same time.
“I am thankful to the almighty Allah for turning my vision of this place into reality. What the hosting community expected to have as requested from me back in the year I came to seek their votes was a mere renovation of this structure serving then as an abandoned cottage hospital, but my knowledge of the inadequacy of access to mental health services and the lacuna which our geo-political zone can benefit from compelled me to adopt the choice of this project, the first of which to be established in North Central.”
“I want to assure you that this facility will be further strengthened upon the implementation of the various inputs we have made in the 2023 budget to complement the efforts to place it firmly on sound footing. We are cognizant of the significance of building certain structures necessary to meet health needs and engender a conducive environment for better health outcomes. This is reflected in the ongoing construction of the drug abuse rehabilitation centre, the completed behavioural wards as well as the provision of ambulances and equipment all of which we facilitated for the speedy fulfilment of the essence of the facility.
“It is our sacrosanct resolve never to be complacent by the modest gains we have recorded. We have perfected the arrangements for the construction of a standard diagnostic centre — the provision for which has been made in the 2023 budget to broaden the scope of service and as well elevate the quality of healthcare delivery at the facility.
“Other forthcoming interventions we input in the year 2023 would further expand the human resource base of this facility to deepen economic opportunities for our people. Similarly, we are aware of the deplorable state of the road that leads to this hospital, as such, we have taken measures for the construction of the road to ease mobility and enhance the economic development of this community.”
The lawmaker however enjoins the staff to be up and doing their various duties as the success of the hospital relies on them being the pioneer personnel to work at the hospital.
Appreciating the lawmaker for the visit, the Acting Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Baba Issa Awoye commended him for the various interventions he has facilitated to the facility, averring that his representation has ushered in sustainable developments of his constituency.
“We appreciate you for the consistent support you have been extending to us to strengthen our capacity to provide novel, innovative and comprehensive healthcare services to improve general wellness. With your various interventions, we are better positioned to actualize the objectives that informed the establishment of the facility.”
