Residents of Ifelagba community in Sobi, Alagbado, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, have raised concerns over an alarming oil spillage affecting four wells and one borehole in the area.
Responding promptly, the Honourable Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, led officials from her Ministry and the Ministry of Environment on an urgent inspection visit. She assured the residents of the Kwara State Government’s commitment to swift and decisive action.

Hon. Damilola emphasized the need for comprehensive geological and environmental assessments to verify the extent of the spillage, its health and safety implications, and its potential for future resource exploration. She also pledged collaboration with the community and engagement with relevant federal agencies for technical evaluation and responsible area development.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, represented by the Head of Pollution Control Department, Alabelewe Saadudeen, promised thorough investigations to identify the root cause of the spillage.
During the visit, the Chairman of Ifelagba community, Alhaji Ajadi AbdulAzeez, expressed appreciation for the government’s swift intervention. He highlighted the discovery of oil in key water sources, which has led to contamination and water scarcity in the area.
In a decisive move, Hon. Damilola directed the temporary closure of Rainoil Filling Station located along Lare-Gada, Sobi Road, Ilorin, pending further investigation.
