Electricity consumers in Offa and Oyun have expressed growing frustration over the worsening electricity supply under the management of the IBEDC Offa Business Hub. They are demanding the immediate transfer of the Business Hub Manager and an independent investigation into the ongoing power crisis affecting the region.
1. Selling Less Energy to Collect More Revenue:
Residents allege that the IBEDC Offa Business Hub deliberately reduces electricity supply while maintaining high billing rates. This practice has led to significant dissatisfaction, as consumers feel they are being overcharged for inadequate service.
2. Unfair Distribution of Power Across Six Feeders:
The six feeders supplying Offa and Oyun reportedly receive electricity for only 1 to 2 hours daily, leaving consumers frustrated.
3. Erratic Power Supply on Major Feeders:
Electricity supply on Offa, Igosun, Industrial, and Township feeders has become highly unstable, with frequent disruptions that negatively impact businesses and households.
4. Disparity in Power Distribution:
Investigations reveal that while Offa and Oyun face severe power shortages, Omu-Aran enjoys relatively stable electricity. Additionally, IBEDC provides 12 to 20 hours of electricity in Osogbo, Ilorin, and other towns under its coverage, raising concerns about unfair distribution practices.
5. False Justification for Power Shortage & Deception by the Business Manager:
IBEDC has attributed the erratic supply to low water levels in hydroelectric dams, affecting power generation nationwide. However, an independent investigation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that there is no shortage of power allocation to distribution companies (DisCos). TCN has stated that it has enough energy to supply to DisCos, and it is IBEDC that determines the amount of megawatts allocated to each Business Hub.
Further findings reveal that the Offa Business Hub Manager has been deceiving stakeholders and customers by falsely claiming that the under supply of electricity is due to low allocation from TCN. This misinformation is misleading the public and covering up IBEDC’s deliberate refusal to allocate sufficient power to Offa and Oyun.
Call to Action:
We call on:
– *IBEDC’s management* to immediately address these complaints and ensure fair power distribution.
– *The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)* and other relevant authorities to launch an independent investigation into the Offa Business Hub’s operations.
– TCN and the Federal Government to intervene and hold IBEDC accountable for its power allocation decisions.
Electricity consumers in Offa and Oyun will no longer accept unjust treatment. We demand transparency, accountability, and immediate solutions to restore reliable electricity supply to our communities.
