Olalomi Comprehensive College Old Students’ Association(OCCOSA) has paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE in his office on Monday 14 August 2023.
The courtesy visit was premised on congratulating the Rector on his appointment as the 5th substantive Rector of the Polytechnic and also to solicit for the management’s support and intervention through Corporate Social Responsibility.
The President of the association, Dr. Ibrahim Musibau Adekunle in his address noted that the visitation of the executives was based on the aged-long relationship between the school and the polytechnic since 1992. He stressed that the old Olalomi Comprehensive College was given to the Polytechnic as a take-off site by the community which truncated the growth of the school to a large extent. He, therefore, sought for the intervention of the Polytechnic management by providing infrastructures within its capacity to assist the school regain its strength in the area of standard facilities and equipment.
According to him, “…the position of the school today is far below expectations of the founders, the old students especially those who witnessed the birth of the school. We, therefore, use this opportunity to seek your quick intervention either as a means of Corporate Social Responsibility or otherwise. We need befitting laboratories, block of classrooms, 500 seater hall, gated school fence, road network to the school from the main road, etc…of course, we are not expecting you to do all but we know you can still contribute to the growth of the school.”
Also speaking, the Medical Director of General Hospital Offa, Dr. Abdusalam thanked the Rector for receiving the executives honorably. While praying for the successful administration of the Rector, he disclosed that the Old Students Association has decided to adopt the Rector as Life Patron.
Engr. Dr. Kadiri in his response appreciated the executives of the association for finding him worthy of the gift presented to him and for choosing him as a life patron. He, therefore, promised to work on the request of the association and create a channel for swift intervention in due time.
Dr. Kadiri equally charged the executives to always reach out and assist their classmates who are still struggling with life.
The Rector while admonishing the executives stated that most people see the alumni association as a cabinet of people in the upper class which always discourage many from participating in the association’s activities. He, therefore, urged the members to always look after others who are in the lower class and extend charity to them.
According to him, “…Reach out to your classmates, people are suffering. You have to contribute your own quota to assist your classmates. Don’t look after your colleagues who have already made it only, look after others who are downtrodden. Many see Alumni as a cabinet of people who have already made it in life and therefore lose interest in their activities. That’s why you have to extend charity to them and bring them on board. It is rewarding as an act of almsgiving. I appreciate your courtesy visit and thank you for the gift.”
