Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has finally broken his silence over the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his longtime political rival, from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Omo-Agege, who lost the 2023 governorship election to Oborevwori, has directed all organs of the Delta APC to welcome the new entrants, including Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
In a statement released on Sunday, Omo-Agege assured that the party’s national leadership was already managing the political realignment to safeguard APC’s interests in Delta State.
Before Oborevwori’s dramatic defection from the PDP to the APC last week, Omo-Agege was among the loudest voices rejecting overtures from the governor.
With the defection, Oborevwori not only strengthened his political survival ahead of 2027 but also assumed de facto leadership of the Delta APC, a role Omo-Agege had firmly held.
Analysts say the move leaves Omo-Agege politically cornered, given that the governorship candidacy for 2027 may now slip from his grasp.
However, in his Sunday statement, Omo-Agege called for unity with the Delta APC.
