Obey court order on rectors’ appointment, ASUP urges FG

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has called on the Federal Government to comply with a court order by initiating the process for the appointment of new rectors for five federal polytechnics.

The ASUP President, Mr Anderson Ezeibe, made the call at the end of the 106th National Executive Council meeting of the union held recently in Abuja.

He explained that the National Executive Council of the union was disappointed that more than one month after the ruling of the National Industrial Court in the suit NICN/ABJ/117/2021 delivered by Hon. Justice O.A. Obaseki- OSAGHAE, nothing had happened.

 

He noted that those appointments were nullified by the court are Prof. Edward Okey, Dr Zakari Yau, Prof. Garba Ngala, Prof. Edwin Onyeneje, Dr Terlumun Utser as Rectors of Federal Polytechnic Ugep, Shendam, Mungonu, Ohodo, and Wannune, respectively.

The affected polytechnics are Federal Polytechnic, Ugep in Cross River State; Federal Polytechnic, Shendam, Plateau State; Federal Polytechnic, Mungonu, Borno State; Federal Polytechnic, Enugu, Enugu State and Federal Polytechnic, Wannune, Benue State.

Ezeibe stated that the purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on important matters concerning the Nigerian polytechnic system, the education sector, and the country.
