The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ilorin Branch on Friday celebrated the 2022 graduating Engineering students and Induction Ceremony of the students of Kwara State University, Malete KWASU.
Speaking on the theme: Prospects Challenges and Opportunities for Engineering Graduates in an Emerging Economy, the guest speaker, Engr. Dr. Habeeb A. Ajimotokan (PhD, R.Eng [COREN], MNSE, MNIMechE), said Governments in emerging markets tend to implement policies that favour industrialisation and rapid economic growth. He added that such policies lead to lower unemployment, higher disposable income per capita, higher investments, and better infrastructure.
“On the other hand, developed countries, such as the USA, Germany, and Japan, experience low rates of economic growth due to early industrialisation. Emerging markets usually achieve a low-middle income per capita relative to other countries, due to their dependence on agricultural activities. As the economy pursues industrialisation and manufacturing activities, income per capita increases with GDP.
“Emerging economy frequently exhibit market volatility, growth and investment, rapid economic expansion, and high per capita incomes”.
“The market volatility typically stems from political instability, external price movements, and or supply-demand shocks due to natural calamities. It exposes investors to the risk of fluctuations in exchange rates, as well as market performance”.
Engr. Habeeb posited that there are lots of opportunities lined up for engineers. He said they are found in almost all fields.
He charged them to be honest and be a good ambassadors of the University.
“There are lots of opportunities for engineers both now and the future. I implore you to be diligent and discharge your work competently”.
