The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, has said it will partner traditional rulers in the North to battle the circulating variant polio virus type 2 (cVPV2) among children in the region by the end of December 2023.
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said agency’s commitment to eradicating all forms of polio viruses was driven by a collective responsibility to protect children in the region from preventable suffering.
Shuaibu stated these on Wednesday, at a strategic meeting of the Northern Traditional Leaders Committee on Primary Health Care Delivery with Traditional Leaders of Inaccessible Areas in three states, in Kaduna.
The three states include Katsina, Kaduna and Niger.
According to Shuaibu, the battle against cVPV2 requires a united front, a bond between traditional, religious and local leaders, health workers, parents, and every citizen who dreams of a polio-free future.
He noted that through collaboration with the monarchs regardless of security challenges in their domains, the agency could effectively combat the scourge.
