The 16 Local Government Area (LGA) Party Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have jointly derided the ongoing membership drive by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as a laughable show of desperation by a party that is “completely dead” in the state.
Rising from a strategic meeting held in Ilorin, the party secretaries issued a statement on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in which they warned Kwarans to remain vigilant and not fall for what they termed the PDP’s “superficial activities.”
In a statement jointly signed by the 16 LGA Secretaries of the party, a copy of which was made available to journalists by their coordinator, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulkareem,
the party scribes said:
“We note, with a sense of responsibility, the ongoing membership drive by the opposition PDP in Kwara State. We consider this not only laughable but also a clear sign of desperation from a party that is not only gasping for relevance at the national level but is completely dead in Kwara State,” the APC secretaries declared.
They attributed the political downfall of the PDP in Kwara to what they described as the visionary and people-oriented leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, under whose administration they claim the state has seen “visible developmental projects, social welfare programs, and inclusive governance.”
In a strongly-worded rebuke of the PDP’s past, the APC chieftains painted a grim picture of life under the opposition party, recounting what they called the “terrible misrule and shameful antecedents” of its time in power.
According to the statement, “Civil servants were subjected to untold hardship, with many receiving only 30% of their salaries for several months. Pensioners were left to wallow in pain, many dying in neglect and poverty. Local government workers became beggars, unable to feed their families. Some female civil servants were forced into degrading situations just to survive, while their male counterparts became casual laborers and hawkers out of frustration.”
“These shameful memories,” the secretaries added, “remain fresh in the minds of the people and should serve as a warning to all Kwarans — never again should we allow PDP to hold any influence over the affairs of our state.”
Reaffirming their commitment to the APC, the secretaries passed a vote of confidence on Governor AbdulRazaq, hailing his administration’s reforms and the renewed dignity of workers, pensioners, and ordinary citizens.
They urged party faithful across the state to remain united and focused in retaining the support of the people, insisting that “nobody in their right senses would willingly join a party that once brought so much hardship to the state.”
“As custodians of the APC at the grassroots, we call on all party faithful to remain united and focused. We must retain the mandate of the good people of Kwara by ensuring continued support for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, all APC party leaders, stakeholders, all political office holders and the APC’s transformational agenda,” the statement read.
The 16 LGA Secretaries ended their communique with a resounding declaration:
“We reaffirm our unwavering vote of confidence in His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and his stellar leadership which continues to lift Kwara out of the ruins left behind by the PDP.”
