No easy electoral victory again, Buhari tells politicians

President Muhammadu Buhari reflected on the outcome of the general election yesterday with the conclusion that the era of easy route to power was gone for good.

He said the loss suffered by governors at the polls showed the sophistication of voters.

The President said he was shocked by the way ordinary voters expressed awareness during the process, adding that the outcomes of the February 25 and March 18 elections have changed the election landscape in the country.

He spoke while hosting the newly-installed Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sunusi, at the State House in Abuja.

In a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, the President said “the stunning outcome of 10 governors failing to make it to the Senate meant that there is no longer a guaranteed route to power and that the voter is truly the king when it comes to elections”.

He also promised to brief the incoming President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the Emir’s requests, agreeing with his guests on the worrisome water supply problem in Dutse, the State Capital.

The President told the Emir and members of the Emirate Council who accompanied him that he and the entire nation will continue to miss his friend, the late Emir, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi, saying that he will continue to pray for the repose of the deceased.
