A total of 725 Nigerian players were involved in the winter and summer transfer windows in 2022 which accounted for the fifth highest global transfer in the world.
Ghana and Ivory Coast are the other African teams (with a total of 515 players 428 movements) in the top 10.
The transfers involving these Nigerian players during that period commanded a total of $104.2m, which is the 19th highest in the world according to a document released by world governing body, FIFA.
Nigeria was also represented in the top 10 most transferred women players globally.
Some of Nigerian top players in the 2022 transfer market include Umar Sadiq who joined Real Sociedad from Almeria for €26m plus add-ons. Calvin Bassey completed a €27m plus add-ons move to Ajax, Emmanuel Dennis joined Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest from championship side Watford for £25m.
Taiwo Awoniyi also joined Nottingham Forest for £20m after a successful season with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
