Nigeria drifting towards anarchy, Buhari should resign – Ortom
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Monday, called on President Muhammadu Buhar to resign from office with immediate effect.
Ortom, who made the call at a press conference at the Government House, Makurdi, said the President should hand over to his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
The governor, who hinged his call on the rise in insecurity, corruption and poor economy with the high cost of living, said the President had failed Nigerians.
He noted that the three mainstays of the President’s campaign in 2015 were security, economy and corruption, but regretted that the Buhari regime had failed in his campaign promises and the nation was drifting into anarchy under his watch.
Ortom stated, “The APC-led government has completely failed to fulfil the promises it made to Nigerians in 2015. I was part of the people who elected President Buhari and we worked very hard for it.
The Federal Government has failed; so, I call on President Buhari to accept that he has failed the country and he should honourably resign as the President of Nigeria and hand over to his deputy, because the way things are going in the country, if the President does not rise to his responsibility, the nation will drift into anarchy.”
Ortom, who lampooned the Federal Government for the incessant killings by Fulani herdsmen in the state, stated that his administration had devised a new strategy to combat their activities.
Though he declined to explain the new strategy, the governor dropped a hint that he would personally lead the cause.
