NFF renews Peseiro Eagles’ contract

After a long contractual discussion, the Nigeri Football Federation on Sunday announced that an agreement had been reached with Jose Peseiro to continue his role as the head coach of the country’s senior men’s national team.

The NFF announced the appointment of Peseiro as the new coach of the Super Eagles May 15, 2022, replacing Austin Eguavoen, who returned to his Technical Director role at the federation.

The NFF said in a statement that the 63-year-old will now lead Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations after his initial one-year contract ran out in July.

His initial contract paid him $70,000 a month, but it is understood the new agreement will have his monthly pay at $50,000 after the federation said they could no longer afford his previous salary.

He has been handed the target of leading the Super Eagles to at least the semi-finals of the Africa Cup to be hosted by the Ivory Coast in January.
