National security complex requires multifaceted approach – CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor has said national security in Nigeria is complex, adding that the security situation in the country requires a multifaceted approach from all sectors of society.

Irabo, who was represented by the Director, Training Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Tanko Pani, spoke at the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop, titled, “Use of Broadcasting in Complementing the Military in conflict mitigation and conflict management”.

He noted that an all-of-society approach is required to end the insecurity bedevilling the country.

He said, “National security in Nigeria is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach from all sectors of the society. The country has been grappling with various forms of insecurity in the past decade which includes terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, oil theft, piracy, drug, and human trafficking, illegal unregulated and unreported fishing, and cyber crimes amongst others.

To curtail this security situation, an all-of-society approach is required. The approach involves the participation of the government, security agencies, civil organizations, religious leaders, traditional leaders, the press, and the general public.
