NAF promises to comply with laws during operations

The Nigerian Air Force has promised to abide by the provisions of international humanitarian laws during its operations.

The service said it is ready to engage with organisations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross among others to achieve this.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, disclosed this during the ICRC team visit to the NAF headquarters in Abuja.

A statement on Tuesday by NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, said Abubakar commended the ICRC for providing research and training assistance in various operation theatres and colleagues.

It partly read, “The Chief of the Air Staff extended his gratitude for ICRC’s substantial contributions to NAF’s activities. He specifically noted the impactful role played by ICRC in areas of humanitarian assistance, training, and research in operational theatres, units, colleges, and training institutions.

“He also emphasised the positive influence of ICRC’s involvement in enhancing the handling of humanitarian activities. Air Marshal Abubakar echoed the sentiments of collaboration and cooperation and reiterated NAF’s readiness to engage with ICRC and other organisations in ensuring adherence to humanitarian laws while executing operations.

“The meeting concluded on a positive note, highlighting the commitment of both organisations to jointly address and overcome humanitarian challenges.”
