The Kwara State Government, through the Office of State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), has provided relief materials to victims of a recent rainstorm in Odofin Igbana, Oke Ero Local Government Area of the state.
The relief materials handled over to the president of the Odofin Igbana Descendants Union on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, include 150 bundles of roofing sheets, 22 packs of nails, 20 beds, 1 park of mats, 3 bundles of Ankara, and other items.
The presentation was supervised by the Secretary of the Office of SEMA, Mr. Sa’adu Mashood Magaji, and the Chairman of Environmental Special task forces Hon. Abdulrasaq Jiddah.
While presenting the relief material to the representatives of the Odofin Igbana rainstorm victims, Hon. Abdulrasaq Jiddah appreciated governor AbdulRaman’s concern over the incident that affected the people.
Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman felt worried and shared your pains. Given this, he directed the agency to distribute relief materials to the victims and promise to continue to be supportive as he had been doing in every aspect of life, he said.
He further explained that there many places that affected by the natural disaster across the state and some were been attended to while some relief is still in the pipeline and assure other victims of government intervention.
He therefore pleaded to the people of the state to be mindful of disasters that can be prevented and continue to support the government in fighting the cause.
The SEMA secretary, Mr. Mashood Magaji while speaking with Just Event Online TV said that the government was committed to providing relief to victims of natural disasters in the state. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the materials.
The rainstorm that hit Odofin Igbana, destroyed several houses and displaced many people. The government’s relief materials will help the victims to rebuild their homes and start afresh.
The president of the Odofin Igbana Descendant Union, Mr. Oni Adebayo Joseph, who received the relief materials on behalf of the victims expressed appreciation to the state government for the prompt response to the plight of the victims. He also prayed for the success of Governor Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman.
In his words “As the president of the Odofin Igbana descendant union, about 35 houses were affected and I will make sure every victim gets their share of the relief materials and it will distribute accordingly in line with the data collected by the committees set up by the union”.
