The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete, on Monday, unveiled activities for the 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremony of the university scheduled to hold on between the 6th of December to 9th of December, 2021
While addressing journalists at Muhammad Buhari Main Library, Kwara State University Malete, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi, said the institution will be convocating a total of 6620 students, 3864 students are for the 2019/2020 session and two thousand, seven hundred and fifty-six (2,756) for the 2020/2021 session.
While three hundred and twenty-one (321) students are for the higher degree in the 2019/2020 session, and ninety-six (96) in the 2020/2021 session.
Professor Akanbi added that out of the six thousand, six hundred and twenty students, the university had produced ninety-eight (98), first-class students, for the combined convocation.
“The reason for this is obvious. The year 2020 was an uncommonly tough one for most countries, Nigeria inclusive. The COVID-19 pandemic caused nationwide lockdown for some months, disrupting the academic calendar of many universities in the country”, he explained.
Speaking on some of the meritorious achievements of the university, he said the institution are setting a pace at the aircraft engineering in Nigeria, as two of its student, AbdulZahir Okinobanyi Usman Ans Israel Oluwagbemi Adeniyan under the supervisor of Professor AbdulGaniyu Alabi designed and constructed a light aircraft.
“The one-sitter turbo propeller engine aircraft is set to attain an altitude of thirteen thousand feet (13,000 ft), at 220 km/h speed.
The light aircraft which is the first of its kind in the University will soon be ready for a test flight.”
“Considering that post-impact fire is a major cause of death in the event of an air crash, a staff of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Engr. Abdulbaqi Jinadu alongside his supervisees Ayodeji Akangbe Tunde and Haleem Olamide Olatinwo sought ways to-contaminate aviation fuel in the event of a certain air crash.
“In-depth research revealed a mixing ratio that successfully increased the flash and fire points of aviation fuel to reduce its ability to burn and thereby facilitate the rescue of passengers. This same staff, Engr. Abdulbaqi Jinadu and another set of his supervisees namely Samuel Kayode Olagunju, Abdulhafeez Opeyemi Salisu, and Oluwaseun Aderugbemi Adeniyi remodeled the mid-section of the Boeing 737 fuselage that houses the main fuel tank in a way that reduces any explosion in the event of a crash”.
Disclosing other spectacular achievements by the University, Professor Akanbi said the institutions have designed and installed a 5 kVA Solar Inverter for use by the Electrical Engineering Students for Laboratory Experiment by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
While the department also installed a 2.5 kVA Solar Inverter for use in the HOD’s Office and the design, construction, and implementation of a portable public address system with solar power back-up.
This equipment has been tested for use in KWASU lecture rooms and it is found suitable, he added.

“The Department of Computer Science has recorded several achievements such as having well-equipped Software Laboratory with backup power, 24/7 Internet facility, and CCTV coverage; and a well-equipped Hardware Laboratory with numerous hardware tools for hands-on real-time practical.”
He, however, noted that the Kwara State University has zero-tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct, adding that to ensure that few bad eggs among the students do not contaminate the decent ones, the management has between 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions, expelled a total of eight-seven (87) students from the university.
He said that the concerned students were involved in examination malpractice, drug-related offenses, internet fraud, robbery, among other antisocial behaviors, which led to expulsion following the Students’ Disciplinary Committee’ investigation
