Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter have taken a decision to boycott all activities related to Kwara United, a state owned club, indefinitely, over the club management’s consistent discourteous attitude towards its members.
Rising from an emergency online meeting held on Saturday Secretary of Kwara SWAN, Dare Kuti, stated that the decision to shun activities related to Kwara United henceforth though regrettably is necessary in the face of prevailing circumstances around the football club.
Kwara SWAN noted with dismay, the unprecedented level of disdain and lack of regard for members of the fourth estate of the realm as portrayed conspicuously by the management of Kwara United.
The body language of the management of Kwara United portrays a strange kind of professional football administration where the media, by extension, openness, transparency, club image and therefore branding, don’t matter.
SWAN is aware that the state governor, Mallam Abdulrahaman Abdulrazak, has spared no effort, time and resources to see the club grow.
The very least, the management of Kwara United can do is not only to replicate the good governor’s gestures with not only result, but also demonstration of carrying relevant stakeholders of the beautiful game along.
Kwara United, on the contrary, has decided to run an exclusive, conclave kind of administration to the utter consternation of fans, media partners and many others.
The current Executive committee of Kwara SWAN will continue to take steps aimed at positioning and repositioning the association for greatness and due recognition as the umbrella body of professional sports journalists statutorily recognized not only Nigeria but globally, and who would stop at nothing to achieve their set aims and objectives.
Kwara SWAN thanks members for their cooperation as always and unanimous agreement while taking this painstaking but imperative decision advising members to adhere to the decision agreed upon
