Kwara State Polytechnic Mechanical Engineering Students Inducted into NIMechE, Pledge to Re-engineer Nigeria

The Kwara State Polytechnic’s Department of Mechanical Engineering on Wednesday inducted some students into the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE). In the same vein, the Department’s student chapter was inaugurated.

The theme “Re-engineering Nigeria for Abundant Prosperity,” marked a significant step for the future of mechanical engineering in the country.

Just Event Online TV reports, Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Dr. Mary Arinde, represented by Mallam Mahmud, Assistant Director of Research & Development, appreciated the management and staff of the institution for showcasing Kwara polytechnic to the world positively and providing competent engineers who can tackle the challenges in the engineering world.

In his welcome address, NAMES President, Senator Salami Tirimisiyu Olayinka, said the importance of the occasion, stating, “Today marks a new beginning in the history of our department.” He emphasized the significance of NIMechE as a “crucible where the mechanical world is shaped”. He expressed hope that the inducted students would contribute actively to the field.

Also, he solicited support for essential items needed by the student association and the department. These included a means of transportation, computer systems, and internet facilities. He expressed hope that sponsorships and donations would further empower the students to pursue their goals.

The guest speaker, Engr. Oluwole Raphael Farounbi, who delivered lecture on the theme of the event challenged the students to embrace innovation and critical thinking to solve Nigeria’s engineering challenges and contribute to national development.

The Mechanical Engineering world beacons,” he urged, “and you should not merely observe it, but actively contribute to its evolution.”

On his part, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, lauded all the staff of institute of technology. He encouraged the newly inducted students to continue on the right path laid down, stressing that they should always show the professionalism in them everywhere.

Engr. E.A Adebayo, Head of NAMES Department, also highlighted the department’s commitment to nurturing future engineers. He commended NAMES for its efforts in organizing the event and expressed confidence in the inducted students’ potential to excel.

National Chairman, Engr. Al-Hassan Muhammad ably represented by Engr. Prof. J.O Awede, supervised the induction ceremony, where students were officially welcomed into NIMechE as Student Members (SMNIMechE).

He said this will formally grants them access to the institution’s resources and professional network, paving the way for their future careers.

The event, held at the Rear Admiral Muhammed Alabi Lawal Auditorium, was graced by prominent guests, including Engr. Kamil Wopa, Former commissioner for works, Engr. Rotimi lliasu, among others.
