The Admiral Alabi Lawal Auditorium of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, was abuzz with intellectual excitement as the institution hosted the grand finale of the 2024 Engr Suleiman Rotimi Iliasu Quiz and Debate Competition for engineering students.
The event, organized by the National Association of Polytechnic Engineers (NAPES), aimed to celebrate intellectual rigor and innovation among students.
Just Event Online TV reports, The competition was institutionalized in 2023 to honor Engr. Suleiman Rotimi Iliasu’s contributions to empowering students through skills acquisition training, sponsorship to national conferences, and academic scholarships.
The theme, “Engineering Solutions to Persistent Economic Challenges in Nigeria,” was addressed by keynote speaker Engr. Prof. Temitope Elizabeth Odetoye, who presented workable engineering solutions to Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Dignitaries present included Engr. AbdulRahman Olasunkanmi, President of the Institute of Technology; Engr. Mrs. Ruth Modupe Bayeri, Director of the Institute of Technology; Hon. Lawal Ayanshola Salihu, Chairman of the occasion; and Hon. AbdulRaheem Medinat Motunrayo, Deputy Leader of the House.
The Students Union President, Comr Emmanuel, commended Engr. Suleiman Rotimi Iliasu for his visionary initiative, which inspired him to prioritize education and become the number one student in Kwara Poly.

The winner of the contest attributed their success to God and their lecturers, while Hon. Saliu Ayansola, Chairman of the occasion, commended Engr. Rotimi Iliasu for his contributions to the educational environment.
An award of honor was bestowed on Engr. Rotimi Iliasu and other well-meaning individuals. The event showcased the intellect, creativity, and communication skills of the students, embodying the ethos of engineering excellence.
