Kwara LG Polls: Open Letter to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

Happy Sunday, sir

Your Excellency, information is rife that you are opposed to imposition!

Why would your words not be actionable!

I hope you don’t mind. I decided not to echo the song of “political devoirs” that you have been receiving since you were elected Governor of Kwara State in 2019. You are probably tired of it already. You came to change one of the assumed unacceptable, ill-advised systems of governance — Mo fun e (read: I give you!)

To be honest, Until your 2019 elections, I have never voted for any politician. I couldn’t have. For the first time, I had come out of my quiet place and lent citizenry support to the choice of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of the All Progressives Congress to run for Gubernatorial race. I later became an active mobilizer for the party, seeing that the APC represented the ideal political system I had craved for our country and especially, our state. Although, the campaign that backed your eventual choice of candidacy, with due respect to you, was unsavoury.

Your Excellency, as it stands right now, the general public (not just party members) believe you to be fair, just and equitable in your dealings. You must be mindful of some of our APC leaders who are not in consonance with the grassroot, but will rather prefer to dine and whine in GRA! Whenever we see them in the community, it would be purposely to come around to either deliver messages that were not emanated from you just because they know we cannot get equal access to you as them or to create chaos in our political systems. Sadly, they will fly!

I have decided to write you an open letter: of belief that might help make yourself, your government and our party successful.

I had two options in delivering these messages. One was to write an op-ed, which would be a critical analysis of the party’s involvement in selecting and substituting candidates for the forthcoming Local Government Council elections. I did not consider it too early to make such an analysis. While the it would have presented a stark, objective view of the situation, I decided against it, knowing that in our current political landscape, such analyses are often dismissed as either inconsequential or fueled by ulterior motives. It is hardly effective in Kwara State as critical analyses of politics are seen as impertinent or sponsored. They are, therefore, generally ignored by the concerned public office holders.

After careful consideration, I opted for a method I’d rarely as a citizen: the open letter. This approach, while occasionally perceived as pretentious, can serve a higher purpose, as it increases the likelihood that my message will reach its intended recipient. Thus, I hope this letter will pique your interest and perhaps provide you with valuable insights. Who knows, you may find something useful in what I have to say.

Your Excellency, Sir.

Ojuekun/Zarumi Ward is literally on fire. By this time, I am certain information ought to have reached you. If not, I hope mine will reach you.

The political conspiracies that created the seeming discord by just an individual who keeps boasting he is the closest person to you in Ojuekun/Zarumi Ward and that whatever he wants, you will do, only deepened the challenges and public rejection our party would face as far as the issue of Councilorship is concerned in the forthcoming elections.

Your Excellency, if this appears to work in his favour this time; it might also work against him another time. Bad habits die hard. The party will suffer the blows!

If what we heard is right, that one Lanre Babadudu has used his “Almighty Influence” to substitute the announced candidate (JIMOH KAMALDEEN AYOOLA) for not even his closest rival (Mustapha Samsudeen) but for Babadudu’s kinsman who was not ever in the contest– Abdulrazaq Aminullah, then the integrity of the party and its leadership should be questioned.

Your Excellency, information is rife that you are opposed to imposition! Why would your words not be actionable! Ask your sincere lieutenants in Ojuekun/Zarumi Ward about what is happening. Ask them about the candidate who has the majority of the party members at his back. Ask for who is the most active partyman amongst these candidates. Ask them about their individual contributions to the success of the party. Besides, if KWASIEC announced another person tomorrow, I fear the shock won’t send some people to the grave — certainly, I believe you won’t be happy seeing such tragedy amidst your party loyalists.

I sincerely await the official announcement from the electoral body. If otherwise, I have nothing to do about it but it sends a very bad signal to the masses that our party doesn’t have integrity. If it works for you today; it might work against you tomorrow.

Yours citizen,

Adam Abdulrahman from Ojuekun/Zarumi Ward.
