Hon. Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, surprised students and school administrators on Wednesday with an unannounced inspection of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for JSS 3 students.

The Commissioner visited Ansarul Islam Secondary School in Ogidi, Ilorin South, and Mount Camel College in Oloje, Ilorin West, to ensure the smooth conduct of the exams and assess the level of preparedness of students and school staff.

During her inspection, Hajia Kawu discovered some students loitering outside school premises and promptly escorted them back to their schools. This incident prompted her to urge school management across the state to be more vigilant and dedicated to their responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of education for the future of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.

In a related incident, the Commissioner encountered a school-age boy hawking on the streets of Oloje during school hours. She followed the boy to his parents’ house and admonished them to take their parental responsibilities seriously, ensuring their child’s education is a priority.

The BECE examination is currently ongoing across Kwara State, and the Commissioner’s surprise inspection aims to ensure the integrity and quality of the examination process.
