Khadijat Foundation, a nongovernmental organisation which is committed to empowering rural school children with educational materials, has on Friday distributed bags to three basic schools across Asa and Moro Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
The school-based intervention, which was facilitated and coordinated by the Haashim Initiative for Community Advancement (HICA), targeted pupils in Turawa LGA School and Awe LGA School in Asa as well as Agbaku LGA School in Moro.
Speaking on behalf of the founder of the Khadijah Foundation, Aliyu Alege described the gesture as a worthy humanitarian assistance for rural communities whose means of livelihoods was under constant threats.
Alege, who disclosed that the bags would serve as motivation for children to take their studies serious, encouraged parents and teachers not to relent in their efforts in supporting the younger ones to achieve their dreams.
In their separate remarks, the headmaster of Agbaku LGA School, Mr Abdulfatai Saliu, commended Khadijat Foundation for the initiative and requested for more support from other not-for-profit organisations.
In her words, the headmistress of Awe LGA School, Mrs Mariam Abiodun appreciated the foundation and commended HICA for its transparency in the distribution of the school bags.
The headmistress of Agbaku LGA school, Hajia Omoniyi Mulikat expressed appreciation to the foundation for supporting the students with the school bags, adding that, the gesture would reduce the number of pupils attending classes without school bags.
In his reaction, one of the beneficiaries, Abdulrasaq Jamiu, a basic five pupil, disclosed that he had been attending school without school bags for the past three years, saying that, “I believe this school bag came at the right time”.
Another beneficiary, A’isha Yusuf, thanked the donor and the facilitator of the intervention, promising that, she would make good use of the school bag.
