The Joint Security Watch Movement of Southern District, Kwara State is appealing to all and sundry to join hands in the war against banditry activities in the zone.
In a statement by the Coordinator of the Movement, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair and made available to Just Event Online TV on Tuesday, he emphasized the need for more surveillance that will involve all strata of the society in order to curtail kidnapping and other criminal activities in the zone
He called on each community to establish Community Security Watch or Governance which could comprise of farmers, artisans, motor cyclists, road transport workers, market women amongst others to shorten life of banditry.
The Council, he advised, should meet either weekly or biweekly basis to review security of the community with a view to sustaining or strengthening its activities, as may be appropriate.
The duties of community security groups will also include liaising with both traditional security outfits and uniformed men in gathering information and intelligence that can be acted upon to tamed the hoodlums, he also added.
According to him, this is a time for great scarifices from the people and particularly challenged okada riders from all nooks and crannies of Kwara South Senatorial District to limit their operations to ten o clock in the evening.
He disclosed that official security reports have in recent times, allegedly indicted some okada riders of either by commission or omission of aiding and abetting heinous crimes like armed robberies and kidnapping in the zone.
He pledged the commitment of the amalgam of hunters and vigilante groups in conjunction with official uniformed men to secure the area
