Jamiu Suleiman Sakele has called on the Kwara State Government to compensate the family of the late Hafsat Lawal with ₦600 million, stating that her tragic murder was a result of leadership failure and a broken system.
According to statement made available to Just Event Online TV by Sakele, AbdulRahman Bello, the 29-year-old who killed Hafsat for ritual purposes, is a product of a failed government that has neglected its people. He argued that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, having led the state for nearly seven years, bears the greatest responsibility for the worsening state of affairs.
Quoting respected Islamic scholar Prof. Aliagan, Sakele noted that under Sharia law, the murderer’s parents would be liable for ₦560 million in compensation. However, given Nigeria’s democratic system, he insists the government must take responsibility, as its failure to create opportunities, provide justice, and ensure security contributed to the crime.
Sakele also criticized the state’s youth empowerment program, Kwapreneur 5.0, calling it a scam that raised hopes only to abandon thousands of applicants without support or jobs. He suggested that desperation from such government failures pushes individuals into crime.
“The blood of Hafsat Lawal is on their hands,” he declared, stating that the ₦600 million demand is not just for compensation but a call for justice and accountability.
Sakele, a member of the APC from Adewole Ward, urged the government to acknowledge its failure and take concrete steps to prevent future tragedies.
