Education is said to be the best legacy one can provide, and technical schools are often described as the solution to practical skill-building challenges.
However, at Government Technical School in Patigi, Kwara State, this legacy appears to be deteriorating amid worsening conditions.
A visit by Just Event Online TV’s community report correspondent on Monday revealed the alarming state of neglect at this once-thriving institution.
The school buildings are visibly deteriorated and dilapidated, raising serious concerns about its capacity to deliver technical education.
With the federal government now including skill acquisition training in the Basic Education curriculum which will begins by 2025, technical colleges should play a more significant role in workforce development.
Yet, given its current condition, can Government Technical College Patigi fulfill this mission?
In an interview with Just Event Online, a local resident recalled the college’s better days
When we were growing up, people from across the North Central region came here for technical training, but now, enrollment has dropped significantly.
With these dilapidated facilities, the school’s ability to provide adequate training is at risk, leaving residents and students questioning the future of technical education in Patigi, she added
- The resident stressed the need for urgent state intervention, calling on the government to address the college’s infrastructural decline and restore it as a viable institution for technical education.
