INEC fixes April 15 for supplementary governorship, legislative elections

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated Saturday, April 15, for supplementary governorship, national and state Assembly elections.

National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement, explained that the electoral umpire arrived at the decision after it met yesterday to review areas where supplementary elections are required to conclude outstanding polls nationwide.

The announcement comes barely one week after the governorship elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states were declared inconclusive.

Okoye reaffirmed that polls have been concluded and winners declared in 26 governorship, 104 senatorial, 329 Federal and 935 state constituencies.

He said supplementary governorship elections would hold in Adamawa and Kebbi states, five senatorial districts, 31 Federal and 58 State Assembly constituencies.

Okoye observed that owing to the competitive nature of the elections, especially for legislative seats, supplementary elections would be held in just a few polling units in some constituencies.
