Ilorin stood still as Shagaya family marks 10year remembrance of matriarch, Alhaja Batuli Ajobi

Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State stood still on Sunday as associates and political supporters of the Shagaya family converged in Ilorin for the 10-year remembrance and prayers in memory of their grandmother, Alhaja Batuli Ajobi Shagaya, the late community leader and trader in the third republic.

The prayer was attended by creme de la creme from across the country, hosted by billionaire Alhaja Muinat Shagaya’s first son Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya and his siblings.

Sheriff Shagaya, a popular philanthropist in the state, attracted the bigwigs in Kwara to the solemn event.

The revered list of dignitaries was topped by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Member representing Isin/Ekiti/Oke-ero constituency Hon. AbdulRaheem Ajuloopin; Director General National Institute for Legislative and Development Studies, Prof Suleiman Abubakar, cabinet members; top traditional rulers; the cleric community led by the famed Muslim scholar Sheikh Habeebullah Adam Abdullahi el-Ilory; members of the intellectual and of cultural communities; bureaucrats; top politicians, businessmen and women, and socio-political groups from the three senatorial districts.

Earlier on Saturday, Sheikh Mujtaba Bature, Ajanasi Agba of Ilorin led the prayers for the late matriarch and the family, beseeching Allah to continue to bless and protect them.

Sheikh Habeebullah el-Ilory while delivering sermon identified the Shagaya Family as foremost in the religious, socioeconomic and political developments in the state, enjoining the scions to keep doing philanthropy in the good memories of their forebears and the interest of the state.

“The Shagaya Family is known for business, industry, and philantropy. The late Hajia Batuli Ajoke lived a virtuous life with success in business. Above all, she was a great and kind mother to all whose love for children and Islamic and western education was remarkable. These are great values that must not die. The children and grandchildren of Alhaja Batuli have started well and are urged to grow in this right path,” he said.

He described Sheriff Shagaya and his siblings as pride of the emirate, specially noting that the good work of the former house of representative candidate with Salman Shagaya Foundation is phenomenal.

He urged him not to depart from his path of humility and love for religion, humanity and development.

The Shagaya family was led by the children of the deceased Alhaji Abdulganiy Shagaya and Alhaja Medinat Shagaya. The grand children in attendance were Sheriff Shagaya, Hakeem Shagaya, Kabir Shagaya, and Mukhtar Shagaya.

Among the dignitaries present were Shagaya’s associate Alhaji Abdullateef Kayode and Alhaji Jani Ibrahim; Lawyer Kunle Sulyman; Alhaji Kawu Baraje; Prince Sunday Fagbemi; Hon. Moshood Mustapha; Hon. Amuda Kannike; Ola Olu Ali (SAN); Lawyer Adelodun Adebayo (SAN); Prof Mustapha Akanbi; Mallam Kawu Modibbo; Mallam Bolaji Abdullah; Alhaja Mariam Kam Wire; Ambassador Nimota Akanbi; Dr. Ayinke Saka; and Engr Kawu Agaka.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Technical Assistant to Kwara Governor on Investment Alhaji Kabir Shagaya thanked the guests and prayed for safe return to their destinations.
