
The Ilorin Emirate Staff Association (IESA) University of Ilorin chapter on Sunday organized its 2024 Annual Ramadan Lecture at Hall 2, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, with the the theme, “Exploring Local Challenges and Prospects for Economic Emancipation of Ilorin Emirate Indigenes.”
Chairman of the association and Deputy Vice Chancellor Management Services at the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulaiman Ambali emphasized the need to reevaluate current economic practices.
He highlighted the potential for creating opportunities within the community to empower its people and foster prosperity.
Speaking with Just Event Online TV, Prof. Ambali stressed the importance of looking inward to harness the untapped wealth within Ilorin. He expressed gratitude to attendees who came from far and near to attend the occasion.
Mallam Nasiru Abdulqadir, in his lecture, discussed a bill proposed at the Kwara State House of Assembly focusing on promoting local content, such as Aso Oke fabric, to reduce reliance on imported goods.
He emphasized the economic benefits of utilizing locally made products, which could lead to job creation and strengthen the state’s economy.
Shola Gegele, the second guest lecturer, advocated for harnessing the potential of waste products, drawing inspiration from China’s success in this area.
He urged academics to provide solutions to challenges faced by the informal sector.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulwahab Egbewole SAN, commended the association for their contributions to the development of Ilorin and encouraged them to continue being ambassadors of progress.
Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Sen Saliu Mustapha, represented by Mall Lukman Isalekoto, praised the association for its sorts and urged them to focus on promoting entrepreneurship among the youth.
The Chairman of the occasion and MD of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Engr Dr Saheed Aremu commended the association for organizing such a significant program during Ramadan and urged them to continue projecting Ilorin Emirate positively.
Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, commended the association for their unity and encouraged them to remain focused on their goals.
Balogun Alanaamu of Ilorin, Dr. Uthman Abubakar Akanbi Jos, offered prayers for the association and the guest lecturers for their insights on entrepreneurship, hoping for continued success and progress.
