Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the people of Ilorin Emirate, has announced the immediate take-over of an unauthorised school operating within the premises of Ilorin Grammar School(IGS), Ilorin.
The Union, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim and made available to Just Event Online TV on Tuesday, said that the decision was taken sequel to the discovery of the existence and operation of the unauthorised privately-owned school and the subsequent inability of its management to offer satisfactory explanation on how it came about the land on which the school is situated.
The Union insisted that it had at no time been taken into confidence or cognisance by any individual or group on why they decided to build the school on IGS premises; and invariably the Union’s land.
The Union said that it has and maintains statutory annual payment to the appropriate authorities on the entirety of the premises of the IGS and other schools and structures existing on the land acquired by the Ilorin community from customary owners about 60 years ago.
The Union’s Spokesman explained that the Union found the building and operation of the school as an affront and would have ordered its immediate pull down but for the fact that the interests and the future of the innocent pupils of the school would be at stake.
The Union, however, assured the parents and guardians of pupils of the school that it would manage it efficiently and ensure envisaged adequate service delivery.
