Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has announced plans to initiate preliminary works on the Ilorin Smart City Satellite Town next year, covering an extensive 18,000-hectare area. Speaking at the 58th Annual National Conference of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the Governor emphasized the importance of upgrading, maintaining, and expanding the capital city, aligning with its significant position in the state and central Nigeria.
The Ilorin Smart City Satellite Town is an extension of the Ilorin City Master Plan, aimed at enhancing infrastructural development and providing new opportunities for growth and investments. Governor AbdulRazaq urged support for this historic milestone, anticipating substantial benefits for real estate and overall city development.
During the conference, the Governor acknowledged the need for continuous infrastructural improvement in Ilorin and expressed gratitude for the support received from the Emirate’s residents. He announced a personal donation of N25 million to support IEDPU’s skill acquisition center and the Central Mosque.
The conference, attended by prominent individuals and government functionaries, also witnessed commendations for the Governor’s achievements in the state. IEDPU President, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, praised the establishment of the Education Trust Fund and acknowledged the government’s foresight in proposing the Kwara State University of Education, advocating for its location within Ilorin.
The Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, applauded the Governor’s support for the Emirate and highlighted the ongoing construction of the skills acquisition center. Justice Kamaldeen delivered a lecture emphasizing the importance of unity, while Justice Idris Haroon advocated for the establishment of Ilorin Emirate Elders’ Forum to promote peace and development.
Overall, the conference showcased collaborative efforts between the government and the community to advance infrastructural development and enhance the overall well-being of the people.
