Group Urges President Tinubu to rescue Kwara Local Govts from impending destruction

In an appeal to address the critical state of local governance, the Kwara Progressive Development Movement is calling upon President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR to urgently intervene and rescue the Local Government Areas (LGAs) administration in Kwara State from impending destruction.

The Kwara Progressive Development Movement under its national coordinator, who is also APC Chieftain,  Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Al-Hassan disclosed this in a press conference with pressmen in Ilorin on Wednesday

Just Event Online TV reports, They presented the key figures, arguing that this class was a response to their moral obligation to safeguard the interests of the local community.

Highlighting the purposeful creation of LGAs in 1976 to bring development closer to the grassroots, the group expresses disappointment in the current Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) arrangements established by the AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman-led administration.

They contend that the TIC, in place for over four years, has resulted in maladministration, poor leadership, and a lack of socio-economic development across the state.

Alhaji Al-Hassan asserts that the TIC chairmen have turned local governments into personal corporations, neglecting due process and accountability. The group are particularly concerned about financial misappropriation and calls for an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) into all TIC transactions.

The Kwara Progressive Development Movement calls on President Tinubu to intervene by dissolving the TIC, halting the release of statutory revenues to local governments, and initiating EFCC investigations.

They also urge the President to advise Governor Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman to tread lightly on the use of state power that may destabilize the socio-economic and political environment in Kwara State.

Expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to address their concerns, the KDPM believe that their renewed hope aligns with his track record of effective local governance during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.
